NEW Adult Bible Fellowship class starts September 14, 2008

In Living the Extraordinary Life, Dr. Stanley uses examples from personal experiences, biblical personalities, and actual case studies to show how the nine principles he points to in these pages can serve as a compass for our souls. Each chapter contains practical help such as sample prayers and penetrating questions to guide us in journaling our daily progress from weakness to strength, from desperation to confidence in God’s power and love. Using these life principles, we can:

Find out how to replace fear with faith

Learn the power-packed secret of waiting on God

Discover that discouragement is a choice

Access God’s power to cope when our stamina is gone

What is the extraordinary life God calls us to enjoy? According to Stanley, “It is the life sustained by an inner peace and joy in the good times and the bad.” It is a life that cannot be dimmed or dampened by the inevitable sorrows and disappointments borne by us all.

This class is for everyone. Whether you are a seeker, a new Christian or a mature Christian, you will profit from this study.

When? Starting 9:00–10:15 A.M., Sept. 14th and following Sundays

Where? Watt Energy Building, first building south of CBC parking lot

What? Bring your Bible, Stanley’s text available

The nine principles:

Complete surrender to God brings complete life

God’s grace is the starting point

True effectiveness comes through intimacy with God

Trust the Lord, and He will move heaven and earth to accomplish His purpose

Obedience always brings blessing

Knowing God’s will is worth the wait

God refines us by fire

Fight your battles on your knees, and you’ll win every time

The Bible is the sourcebook of life

Your teacher will be Harry Beamer and if you have any questions he can be reached at 219-374-6478 ext. 104. Please join us.

“One minute after you slip behind the parted curtain, you will either be enjoying a personal welcome from Christ or catching your first glimpse of gloom as you have never known it. Either way, your future will be irrevocably fixed and eternally unchangeable.” So writes Erwin Lutzer in his above titled book, which will be our complementary text to the Bible as we study what God has revealed about everyone’s experience after death and into eternity.

What perspectives do you have about eternity and were they formed by our culture or His Word? What understanding would you share with a friend or family member who asks you what life is like after death? Do you know where to go in Scripture to answer these questions?

Here’s a partial listing of some of the items to be studied: channeling, reincarnation, near-death experiences, sheol, hades, purgatory, a restful sleep, a collapsing tent, a permanent home, your personality, your intermediate state, your resurrection body, the death of infants, the new Jerusalem, our new occupation, our new family, a new order of reality, characteristics of hell, the justice of God, death by suicide, how to die and what God requires.

Who? This class is open to everyone, invite a friend
When? Starting May 18th and following Sundays, 9:00-10:15 A.M.
Where? Watt Energy Building, first building south of CBC parking lot
What? Bring your Bible, Lutzer’s text available

Chapters from One Minute After You Die:

Attempting to Peek Behind the Curtain

The Descent into Gloom

The Ascent into Glory

Welcome! You Have Arrived!

Living in the New Jerusalem

When Hades Is Thrown into Hell

When God Opens the Curtain for You

Knowing Today Where You Will Be Tomorrow

Your teacher will be Harry Beamer and if you have any questions he can be reached at 219-374-6478, ext. 104. Please join us.

Church family - The leadership at CBC is introducing a new process to you. It is called the C.L.A.S.S. process. This acronym stands for Christian Learning And Service Seminars. It’s a simple process for moving people from unchurched and uncommitted or untrained to mature believers who fulfill their ministry in the church and their life mission in the world. Our strategy is to teach and move people along from unbelief to becoming a participating member of the Kingdom of God. C.L.A.S.S. 101 is called Discovering Church Membership-The 5 G’s. CLASS 201 if Discovering Spiritual Maturity-The Next Step. CLASS 301 is Discovering My Ministry-Doing My Part in the Kingdom. CLASS 401 is Discovering My LifeMission - Contagious Christianity. Timetables of these CLASSes will be announced as they are scheduled.

Being a new year and everything, I thought it was time for a new look with our website as well as some added functionality. In this post, I will explain what features remain the same, and what has been added. Keep an eye on the Website News category, as more available features will be described in detail.

What has (pretty much) Stayed the Same

Although many features of the site has stayed the same, most of them are at a different location, so you may have to update your bookmarks accordingly.

Location / Sunday Services information: These areas were copied from the old site pretty much verbatim. You will find them by clicking the links on the home page or at the top of any other CBC page.

Ministries / Small Groups: You can still find information on most of our ministries and small groups. Just click the respective links at the top of any CBC page.

Calendar: Although the weekly calender is no longer available on the sidebar of the homepage, you will still find the monthly calendar by clicking the link at the top of any CBC page. Furthermore, since we are now using Google Calendar, you have the all the options that Google Calendar provides including subscribing to the calendar and tracking events. See calendar.google.com for more information.

Sermon Recordings / Weekly Bulletins: Weekly media can still be downloaded and listened to right from the home page. Furthermore, you can subscribe to our sermons Podcast. See communitybibleonline.org/sermons for more information.

What Has Been (or will be) Added

Member Directory: Although I have heard controversy about making this available, an online directory is the best way for members to keep up to date contact information about each other. Because people have expressed concerns about having their information made public, I restricted that area to registered users only, and only CBC members & regular attenders can register on the website. I will check potential registrants with the mailbox database, so please make sure you have a mailbox in the lobby before attempting to register. Also, registered members do not have to provide their full contact information. Users will have the option of providing their name, email, street address, city, state, zip, and phone, but only name & email is required.

Weekly Word: This is an extended version of the “Word from the Staff” which has been made available by the staff. Now, it has taken a more blog-like approach, giving website visitors the ability to submit comments (or replies) to the post and have an online discussion about it. We also might start to see CBC members other than staff start to appear in the posts.

News & Events: A more maintained list of news and events will be available. Similar to the Weekly Word category, users will have the ability to post replies and comments to the posts.

Subscription options. If you have an RSS Feed Reader, you can subscribe to certain areas of the site and get notified automatically when new content is added. This includes Weekly Word, News & Events, Weekly Sermons, Missionary of the Week, and Website News. Just look for the RSS links that will soon be made available on the website.

Elder & Deacon Profiles: How come the staff gets to have all the fun? Elders and Deacons will soon be sharing a little about themselves on the website.

Some of these features take advantage of some of the latest technologies and web standards. Watch for future posts that will elaborate further on some of these new features that will be available. If you have any questions about the new site, please contact the webmaster by clicking the “Contact Us” link at the top of the page, or post a comment/reply below if you think others should see it as well.
