Which brings up the concept of "putting out a fleece" as I have heard many Christians say. Gideon was a member of a minor tribe and a nobody. God was going to use him to demonstrate the power of the Lord to Gideon, other Jews and the surrounding heathens. He did not have access to the Bible and in fact most Jews during the Judges period paid small attention to whatever scripture was available to them anyway. God was going to use Gideon to do things that could not be possible without God. Heck, lets go climb a mountain to see if God will give us some commandments as He did with Moses or go to find a poisonous snake to bite us to see if we can shake it off and walk away like Paul did?

Now the Bible is written and we have lots of information about God and His will, so I do not think God wants us to play games with him. For instance, "God, I'm going to date this unbeliever and if she asks if she can pay the tip, that is my fleece and I should keep dating her because you will save her eventually." Ugh. Don't be one of those Christians! The Bible says do not be unequally yoked, so you know you should not date an unbeliever. You do not need a "fleece." Why should God be goofing around with a bunch of fleeces when His Word tells us so much? Also, since we now have direct access to God as kings and priests and we want to know if something is right or wrong and we do not see it in the Bible, ask Him! Right?

Their success was conditioned upon following what Moses commanded them and not veering to the right or to the left. They were to meditate (Ponder or speak, not like New Age meditation) day and night on the book of the law.

Faith, obedience and knowledge of God's word, what a neat concept for overcoming the world.

"If God is for us, who can be against us?" Rm 8:31.

"I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you have trouble. But take heart, I have overcome the world". Jn 16:33

It was also interesting that God told them that when they entered the land, they were to destroy all vestiges of their false religions. Destroy their alters and tear down their asherah poles, etc. God did not want the Israelites to venture into false religion by being seduced with their ways of approaching their false gods. A similsr warning is given in Deut 12, where God said not to inquire how other people serve their gods that I may do likewise, you shall not worship the Lord your God in that way. These days well meaning people look for ways to serve and worship God apart from what God's word says. Great care must be taken that we not treat our God in a way the pagans serve their (false) gods. Our God is a jealous God and deserves to served how He wants not how we want.

Aaron had an interesting response when confronted by Moses.Knowing full well that Moses had just been with the all-knowing God, he chose to shift blame and minimize his involvement in the great sin. He probably should have started with, "Imagine my surprise", before he told Moses about the calf forming itself in the fire.

It's true God still commands us to be courages and to have faith and to be obediant. He still promises us direction, a path with his presence and power and sucess in the mission. Any one who has read Joshua knows that there was them giants in the new land. We are commanded to rise up and welcome that land.We have to walk in faith because if we don't all we see is the giants.Whatever it may be. Lose of a job, loss of a loved one, loss of our home, loss of health or ungodly people commig against us, and last but not least our own sins.It takes courage faith and obedience to walk right into God's promises. But wow the results are sucess in living out the path God has directed for our lives!Gotta love it! Everyone have a wonderful Thanksgiving and remember the giants ain't nothin compared to God's Presence and Glory and he will always take us through!

Looks like you're a poet, and I didn't know it.

While man is plotting against God's people, God is planning His people's salvation. Even enemies can be used to carry out God's purposes. The faith of His people will be tested through trials . God will carry those who trust Him through these trials and be glorified.
